Here is a break down of the time I spend on work:
- 80% is constituent service work;
- 18% is my own bills or working on other legislation;
- 2% is voting on legislation.
Some of my accomplishments include:
- Getting $38 million authorized for school internet infrastructure for 600 schools throughout Massachusetts; Attleboro stands to benefit about $700,000 from this authorization. This project was my idea and I led the way on this project. Doing this, the gap was closed on an executive branch unfunded mandate!
- Getting $5.1 million authorized for an Attleboro Wastewater Treatment Plant project!
- Getting $50,000 for Horizons for Homeless Children, a shelter for homeless women and children right here in Attleboro on Maple St.
- Exceptional constituent services. There is no issue more important than helping Attleboro residents the moment they need it. Eighty percent of the work I do is constituent service work. On a daily and weekly basis, I assist people with issues such as:
Homelessness
LTC & FID Permit Support
Welfare Assistance
Mental Health Referral Support
Small Business Red Tape
Help with state agencies
And MORE!
- Transparency – No one is more transparent than me! Check the home page of my website to see for yourself. Compare my website to any Republican in the state! Like my FaceBook page for daily updates. I published an column each month in the Sun Chronicle so all readers know where I stand on important issues; these are all available on my website. I posted my work everyday online, and sent out a weekly email newsletter.
- I sent the Mayor, City Council, School Superintended, Police Chief, school committee members, and a host of other city officials a weekly email of the work I did that week. This email also went out to constituents all over the district.
- I never missed a committee hearing I am a member of.
- I have been raising the standards of what constituents an "outcome" evaluation, as well as a what constituents a proper cost-benefit analysis of government programs.
- Working with Massachusetts county jails on measuring their treatment programs for outcome effectiveness on recidivism.
- I have been a vocal advocate of evidence-based crime policy.
- Successfully advocating for the full funding of the Mental Health Legal Advisors Committee.
- There is a hidden homelessness crisis in Attleboro and I always drop everything, anytime of the day, no matter where I am to help constituents experiencing homelessness.
- I voted NO on the gas tax hike; I later voted to override the Governor’s veto to avoid a larger tax hike that the Governor was seeking. The Governor wanted a much bigger tax hike and vetoed the first bill to try to force the Legislature for a bigger tax hike. I successfully helped avoid a larger tax hike.
- I gave my maiden speech opposing the death penalty; reintroducing the death penalty in Massachusetts failed.
- I submitted three pages of recommended changes to the first draft of the Speaker's gun bill. Improvements were made, so I voted YES on the second draft. However, not enough improvements were made to reduce gun violence in the third and final version so I ultimately voted NO on the gun bill.
- I co-sponsored legislation concerning: GMO labeling; mental health, animal rights; citizen privacy protection against drones/UAVs, disabilities, bullying, environmental causes, protecting children from sex-offenders, and a lot more!
- Visiting seniors at Golden LivingCenters with Mura every month.
- Flying to Washington DC and testifying before the National Council on Disability about the need for federal legislation concerning prohibiting discrimination against adults with a disability in a family or juvenile court proceeding.
